Steeple Aston Eye Catcher

June 11, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

With stunning countryside all around, this beautiful circular walk around the Heyford Valley offers remarkable views of the Oxfordshire countryside. It’s one of those places you just don’t appreciate until you investigate on foot…

One of it’s profound little secrets, The Eyecatcher, was designed around 1740 by William Kent and is one of the earliest examples of a sham ruin.  It was designed to be viewed from Rousham Park and gives meaning to Horace Walpole’s words about Kent “He leaped the fence and saw that all nature was a garden”.
