Sharing your experience

Dear fellow parents,

I was wondering if you could take a few minutes to help me with something I am working on, which I started pre-pandemic and that came to a halt because of the pandemic and the restrictions that followed.

I am currently studying part time and as part of this study I am hoping to complete a piece of research which would benefit the public. I have chosen to do mine on the experience of families receiving a diagnosis of cerebral palsy for a child in the family, to raise awareness of difficulties encountered by families and highlight things that were beneficial and provided support during the process. My daughter was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy just after birth and during our journey so far we have met a number of families with a child diagnosed with cerebral palsy and it seems like families do not have many ways of having our stories heard or understood by those who might make a difference, in future, for families experiences of receiving a diagnosis.

Please note that this is a small starting piece of research and although I am initially interviewing mothers on their perspectives of their family’s experience, I also hope to interview fathers in following research in this area in the future.
