Rosemary Bryant’s TGO Challenge for Pace
What was your challenge?
My challenge was to trek from the West to the East coast of Scotland in two weeks. On 12 May I set off with my partner for our fourth The Great Outdoors Challenge (TGO). The Great Outdoors Challenge is a unique and very special Scottish institution. Since 1980 thousands of people have taken up the opportunity to backpack from Scotland’s West coast to the East as part of this annual event – each of them following their own carefully crafted route. I have done this before, but working at Transport for Buckinghamshire and having Pace as our chosen charity, I wanted to use this as an opportunity to raise funds for the fantastic work at Pace.
What did you find hard?
I have Planter Fasciiti. This made it the daily mileage a real struggle for me. By day four I felt like I was ready to quit, but in the back of my mind I had the “Yes I can” message in the head from all of the children at Pace. That really kept me going. Due to not knowing what weather we would have we packed equipment for wet, cold weather. Fortunately, the weather was warm and dry but this meant we have extra kit to carry.
What did you enjoy the most about your challenge?
It was great to meet people along the route, some of whom I have met during my first challenge. Experiencing this challenge with people you know, and creating friendships along the way is something I will never forget. No matter how hard I found the challenge, everyone stuck together and encouraged each other. It was an incredible experience.
How much have you raised doing your TGO Challenge?
My total currently stands at £1080.54 which is an incredible achievement. I just know the money will go towards the fantastic work at Pace, and it fills me with lots of pride to know I have contributed to these inspirational children’s lives. Thank you to everyone who gave me the strength to make it through my challenge, and to those that have sponsored me. You can still sponsor me by visiting my Justgiving page here.
