How it works
If you are concerned about your baby or young child’s development, you can self refer to our assessment and advice service, where your child will be assessed by our transdisciplinary team of professionals. On completion of an initial referral form, you will receive a one off telephone consultation with a developmental specialist who will gain a deeper understanding of your concerns and requirements before referring to the assessment and advice team.
Our team comprises specialist occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, and conductive and early educationalists. This breadth of expertise means we are able to make a comprehensive assessment of your child’s needs.
The PIPs Service and Early Years teams consider each referral and will decide which professionals are best to carry out an initial assessment. Assessment will be with at least two professionals.
Assessments typically take place over six sessions to fully explore your child’s developmental needs. However, single sessions or a residential block of sessions can also be arranged if necessary. After the assessment, we will propose an individual plan outlining the additional support we recommend.
If we do not think we are the best people to help your child and family, we will recommend a more appropriate service.
